Hit-and-Run Crash Sends 2 N.C. Police Officers to Hospital

A Lauderhill Police officer and a pedestrian were hospitalized Tuesday evening after a hit-and-run in Sunrise, police said.
Both the officer, who was not identified, and the woman were taken to Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale, Sunrise Police said in a statement late Tuesday night. The statement did not provide information on their injuries or details on the hit-and-run.
Sunrise Fire Rescue Deputy Chief Chris Shannon said the officer was taken to the hospital as a level two trauma alert, while the woman was taken as a level one trauma alert.
They were struck shortly after 5:30 p.m. in the 8200 block of Sunset Strip. The car drove away afterward but was found not long later, Officer Megan Santana, Sunrise Police spokesperson, said in the statement.
Lauderhill Police said in a news release that the officer was hit during “an investigation.”
Sunrise Police are investigating.
